Honda’s 0 Series of electric vehicles that once held so much promise are no more.
The automaker announced March 12 it is cancelling three EV models that were to be produced in North America. That includes the Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon, which were to launch as early as this year, and the Acura RSX, which had been planned for a launch in the second half of this year.
All three would have been made at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio.
At one time, Honda said the 0 Series could spawn seven EVs by 2030.
The automaker estimates the total long-term financial losses from these cancelled projects could be as high as 2.5 trillion yen ($21.4 billion Canadian).
“Honda determined that starting production and sales of these three models in current business environment where the demand for EVs is declining significantly would likely result in further losses over the long term,” the company said.

What’s next for Honda?
The automaker said it will reassess its resource allocation and strengthen its hybrid models.
“As for regional business, in addition to its main markets, namely Japan and the U.S., Honda will enhance the model lineup and cost competitiveness in India, where market expansion is expected,” Honda said. “In other countries in Asia as well, Honda will strive to enhance its competitiveness by introducing next-generation hybrid models and reassessing the allocation of its resources.”
Honda EV project in Ontario postponed
Back in May 2025, Honda announced it would postpone any work related to its EV production plans in Ontario.
At the time the Ontario project was put on hold, Honda said the postponement would be for approximately two years.
There have been no updates regarding the Ontario production plans which would have consisted of four plants.
