Cost-conscious Canadians will not have access to Nissan’s updated Versa subcompact car, which just entered production in Mexico for the 2026 model year.
The Versa was discontinued from the Canadian and United States markets following the 2025 model year. It was Canada’s least expensive new vehicle in 2025.
In Mexico, where it has been the country’s top-selling vehicle in recent years, the Versa just entered production of a new generation, Nissan Mexicana announced Feb. 23.
The updated version gets a new design, including a new front fascia resembling recent Nissan models.
The Versa is assembled at Nissan’s Aguascalientes A1 plant, which on average produces 272,000 vehicles per year.
In a news release (translated via Google), the automaker said the Versa is an important vehicle in Mexico and the start of production of the latest model reaffirms Nissan’s commitment to manufacturing in Mexico.
Production of the Versa supports 4,800 jobs at the plant, plus 104 Mexican suppliers involved in its manufacturing, the company said.
The automaker didn’t share specs of the updated model.
