Audi has unveiled an all-new RS 5 high-performance car and this one is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The new high-performance compact sedan joins Audi’s A5 family of cars. Audi made some naming changes in recent years and the previous A4 line of compact sedans became the A5, while the previous A5 coupes and coupe-style sedans disappeared, albeit the new A5s are more swoopy, capturing both the previous A4 and A5 customers.
For the latest RS 5, the company went big on power.
The car pairs a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with 503 hp and an electric motor with 174 hp (130 kW). The e-motor is integrated into the hybridized eight-speed gearbox.
Audi said the total system output is 630 hp and 608 lb.-ft. of torque.

Of course, quattro all-wheel drive is standard. The quattro system features dynamic torque control and the car has a new rear transaxle with electro-mechanical torque vectoring.
Zero to 100 km/h is reported in 3.6 seconds.
The car features an RS sport-tuned suspension with twin-valve shock absorbers, RS-tuned steering and rides on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels.
Audi unveiled both a sedan and wagon (Avant) model, which will be available in Europe. Canada and the United States often just get the sedan but we’ll have to await North American market details to see if we’ll get the wagon too.
Europeans will be able to buy the new 2027 Audi RS 5 as early as the first quarter of 2026, with deliveries expected by this summer.

Electric range
The new plug-in hybrid powertrain operates on a 400-volt architecture and has a battery with a capacity of 25.9 kWh (22 kWh net).
Audi said the RS 5 will be able to travel up to 84 kilometres (87 in the city) on electric power alone. This is by European test standards, so it will likely be reported a bit lower when it arrives on our shores.
The on-board charger can charge at a rate of up to 11 kW.
The electrical bits of the car do weigh it down. It tips the scales at 2,355 kilograms (5,192 pounds) for the sedan and 2,370 kilograms (5,225 pounds) for the Avant.
Audi said it tuned the suspension’s dampers on a hydro pulse system – a special test facility – to optimally tune them under extreme conditions. This allowed the automaker to design the suspension setup that allows for controlled dynamics in daily driving and full control, stability and feedback under extreme conditions.
Canadian market details haven’t been provided. Visit the Audi Canada website for updates.
