The 2026 Lexus IS is now available in Canada sporting an updated design, more tech and improved safety features.

It’s also down to just a single powertrain, the IS 350, which is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 engine with 311 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed direct shift automatic transmission.

All 2026 IS models come standard with all-wheel drive in Canada.

In 2025, the car also had the less expensive and less powerful IS 300 and the pricier and more powerful IS 500 variants.

What is the Lexus IS?

The IS is the automaker’s compact sports sedan. The original IS model, which launched in Japan in 1998 and here a few years later, was essentially a four-door version of the non-turbo Toyota Supra of the day. The car launched to compete with models such as the BMW 3 Series.

The automaker said the 2026 version continues to put performance front and centre without sacrificing drivability, comfort or features. Lexus said the latest car was developed and tested on the Shimoyama Test Track in Japan.

“The Lexus IS introduced the world to the Lexus Driving Signature – honed to perfection on a purpose-built test track designed to push performance to the limits,” said Martin Gilbert, director of Lexus Canada, in a news release. “For 2026, we’ve focused on upgrades that enhance the IS 350 AWD while maintaining its core objective: turning every drive into an exhilarating, memorable experience.”

What’s new for 2026?

The updated IS is not entering a new generation in 2026. It’s more of a mid-generation update.

This includes fresh styling, including a larger front grille.

On the tech side, the car gets an updated Lexus Interface multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a natural language virtual assistant with a voice-first approach to navigation, media, communication and use of other vehicle features. Connected services can now also be controlled via smartphone through the Lexus App.

Safety has also been upgraded as now all versions get the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, a suite of active safety technologies. On top of the safety suite, the car gets 10 airbags, an on-board first aid kit, an anti-theft alarm system with motion sensor, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and more.
