The Rivian R2 is just a few months away from going to market, but only in the United States.
Canadians will have to wait longer.
As reported by this publication about a week ago, the R2 was to be available in the first half of 2026, but that timeline has since shifted.
The Rivian website now says the electric SUV will launch in Canada in 2027.
The R2 is expected to launch in the U.S. this spring.
“We’re currently focused on bringing R2 to market in the US. We will update Canada’s timeline and pricing in the near future,” the automaker told this blog.
Anticipated Canadian pricing has also been removed from Rivian’s website.
The automaker’s website formerly listed the R2 as starting at $66,500 in Canada, but now the website said pricing will be announced on March 12. To be fair, that $66,500 price tag was announced well before U.S. tariffs on Canadian autos and Canadian counter-tariffs on U.S. autos came into effect. The R2 is assembled in the U.S. and therefore subject to Canada’s retaliatory tariffs.

What is the Rivian R2?
Rivian currently sells only two vehicles, the R1T, an electric pickup truck, and the R1S, an electric SUV.
The R2 is smaller than the R1S, offering two rows of seats instead of three.
It should be quite a bit cheaper than the R1S, which starts at $143,107.
Rivian estimates the R2 will have a driving range of more than 480 kilometres and will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in three seconds.
