NOTE TO READERS – Feb. 16, 2026: This article was updated to include an expanded list of vehicles eligible for the new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, as updated by Transport Canada.

Transport Canada has released a list of vehicles eligible for the new national Electric Vehicle Affordability Program.

The incentive will become available Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.

The program will offer up to $5,000 for the purchase or lease of a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) or fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV).

The program will also offer up to $2,500 for the purchase or lease of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

Only vehicles that are manufactured in Canada or in the countries with which Canada has existing free-trade agreements are eligible for the rebate program.

Additionally, the rebate is only available on vehicles with a final transaction value no greater than $50,000, unless the vehicle is made in Canada, in which case there is no transaction limit.

The minister of transport has final say on vehicle and transaction availability and the program’s terms and conditions may change over time, Transport Canada said.

The final transaction includes the vehicle price, including incentives and discounts, optional features, add-ons, packages, accessories and manufacturer or dealership fees related to the sales. More information about what is considered part of the final transaction value and what is not is available on the Canadian government’s website.

Eligible EVs and PHEVs

Transport Canada’s list of eligible vehicles includes various trims of 2024 to 2027 model year vehicles.

These include:

  • 2027 Chevrolet Bolt – BEV
  • 2025-26 Chevrolet Equinox EV – BEV
  • 2025-26 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid – PHEV
  • 2024-26 Dodge Charger (Daytona) – BEV
  • 2025-26 Fiat 500e – BEV
  • 2024-26 Ford Escape – PHEV
  • 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E – BEV
  • 2025-26 Hyundai Kona EV – BEV
  • 2026 Kia EV4 – BEV
  • 2025 Kia EV6 – BEV
  • 2024-26 Kia Niro EV – BEV
  • 2025-26 Kia Niro PHEV – PHEV
  • 2026 Kia Sorento PHEV – PHEV
  • 2025-26 Kia Sportage PHEV – PHEV
  • 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV – PHEV
  • 2026 Toyota bZ – BEV
  • 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid – PHEV

The above list is based on a Feb. 16 observation. It may change over time as more vehicles become eligible or ineligible. Transport Canada notes that if a vehicle is not on the list but meets the eligibility criteria, it can qualify for the incentive.

To qualify, the vehicle must be bought or leased on or after Feb. 16, and the final transaction value must be no greater than $50,000 unless that vehicle is made in Canada (Dodge Charger Daytona, Chrysler Pacifica PHEV).

Transport Canada said the incentives will gradually decline over a five-year period, starting with with rebates of up to $5,000 for EVs and $2,500 for PHEVs this year.

More information about the EV Affordability Program is available online and the list of eligible vehicles is also available online.
