BMW M Neue Klasse high-performance cars will start becoming available in 2027, the automaker announced in a teaser of these upcoming electric vehicles.
The company said its motto, “Born on the racetrack. Made for the streets. Core of a passionate community,” will live on with fully electric drivetrains.
“The next generation of models are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment,” said Franciscus van Meel, managing director of BMW M GmbH, in a news release. “With the latest generation of Neue Klasse technology, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use.”
BMW M Neue Klasse drive tech
The company said the BMW M Neue Klasse (new class) are being developed from the ground up.
They will ride on a new BMW M eDrive architecture that is based on BMW Gen6 Neue Klasse technology with M-specific control software. The company said the BMW M Dynamic Performance Control unlocks new potential in driving dynamics and safety. The system is also designed for maximum recuperation (battery recharging) and optimal traction right to the vehicle’s limit. BMW also said the cars will offer a more direct response.
Four motors
Powering the vehicles will be four electric motors.
The company will use two electric drive units per axle with one electric motor per wheel.
Having an electric motor at each wheel combines the advantages of rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, on the road and on the track, BMW said.
The front axle can also be decoupled, which will give drivers access to rear-wheel-drive dynamics. This also improves efficiency and thus increases driving range.
The automaker said the BMW M Neue Klasse electric drive units are the most powerful ones it has ever used.
The drive units will control the e-motors and oil supply, and enable precise control of torque and power at each wheel, which BMW said will provide optimal traction, continuous torque distribution between the braking system and e-motors, and brake energy recuperation right up to the limit.
“The result is a driving experience in BMW M production vehicles that has never been achieved before,” BMW said.

Battery
BMW said these new class of M vehicles will have high-voltage batteries with more than 100 kWh of usable energy.
The M Neue Klasse batteries were also adapted for the demands of high-performance driving, whether on the road or track.
Superbrains
As with other Neue Klasse vehicles, BMW’s “Superbrains” play a role in vehicle dynamics.
The company said four powerful computers unite computing power to control things such as driving dynamics, automated driving, infotainment and basic and comfort features.
These systems also allow the vehicles to receive updates and upgrades.
Vehicle weight
It’s no secret that electric cars are heavy.
BMW said M Neue Klasse vehicles will use new and innovative materials.
They will use natural fibre elements, which is a first for fully electric BMW M vehicles.
BMW said it has used natural fibre in motorsports since 2019, gaining insight into durability, production and integration.
This material, BMW said, has similar properties of carbon fibre but is produced with about 40 per cent less CO2 emissions.
