
Despite a tumultuous year for the auto sector, 2025 turned out to be a record sales year for several car brands in Canada.
Overall, approximately 1.9 million vehicles were sold in Canada in 2025, the most since 2019, according to estimates by the DesRosiers Automotive Consultants. That amount is 7.1 per cent below the all-time high set in 2017.
General Motors had the biggest market share, with 299,813 vehicles sold across all of its brands, while Ford came in second with 294,418 sales. The Ford brand was also Canada’s highest-selling individual brand in 2025.
Cadillac, GMC record year
GM’s 299,813 vehicle sales represents a 1.9 per cent increase from 2024, and 2025 was the company’s third consecutive year as market share leader in Canada.
While GM Canada did not break down sales figures by brand, it said its Cadillac (up 7.7 per cent from a year earlier) and GMC (up 0.1 per cent) each had their best Canadian sales year.
Buick, managing to increase sales by 24.4 per cent from 2024, had its best sales year here since 2002.
Toyota, Lexus record year
Toyota Canada had its best overall year as did its Toyota and Lexus brands individually.
The Toyota brand managed a record 216,258 vehicle sales in Canada and Lexus sold a record 33,187 vehicles, giving Toyota Canada a record sales year with 249,445 vehicles sold.
The Toyota RAV4 was the top-selling non-pickup truck vehicle in Canada with 75,573 units of the compact SUV sold here.
Hyundai, Genesis record year
Hyundai Canada also managed its best overall year, as well as best individual years for its Hyundai and Genesis brands.
The Hyundai brand managed to move 146,184 vehicles, an increase of 11 per cent from 2024, while Genesis moved 8,221 vehicles, an increase of 17 per cent, giving Hyundai Canada a record 154,405 vehicles sales through 2025.
The Hyundai Tucson was the company’s top seller with 41,840 vehicles sold, while the GV70 led the way for the luxury Genesis brand with 5,355 vehicles sold.
Kia record year
Hyundai’s sibling brand Kia also had a record year with 94,922 vehicle sales, an increase of 9.2 per cent over 2024, which had been its previous year. This marks Kia Canada’s third straight record year.
The Sportage was the company’s top seller with 23,906 vehicles sold.
Subaru record year
Subaru Canada announced a record year with 70,953 vehicles sold, representing an increase of 4.3 per cent over 2024, its previous best year. That’s the first time the brand sold exceeded 70,000 sales in a year in Canada.
Audi
Audi had a worldwide down year for sales, about three per cent less than in 2024, but Canada was one of several markets where it had a record sales year. In the Great White North, the company sold 37,000 vehicles, representing an 11 per cent increase over the previous year.
Volvo record year
Volvo Car Canada managed to sell a record 14,500 vehicles in 2025, an increase of 8.2 per cent from the year before.
The XC60 was the company’s best seller with 4,731 vehicles sold.

Top-selling models by vehicle type
The top-selling vehicles by type in 2025 were as follows:
- Passenger car – Honda Civic (31,054 sold) (made in Canada)
- SUV – Toyota RAV4 (75,573 sold) (made in Canada)
- Pickup truck – Ford F-150 (138,470 sold)
The F-150 experienced its 16th year in a row as Canada’s top-selling vehicle and 60th consecutive year as the top-selling pickup truck here. The RAV4 was the best-selling non-pickup truck and the second-best selling vehicle overall in 2025.
