Acura is planning to launch the next-generation RDX compact SUV with a hybrid-electric powertrain.
But, as the company plans a launch of the fourth-generation model, it intends to end production of the current third-generation version several years before the new one arrives.
The company said production of the current RDX will be suspended in the first half of this year.
The fourth-generation RDX is planned to launch in the next couple of years.
“We are excited to introduce our fourth-generation RDX as it will be the first Acura powered by our all-new, dual-motor, hybrid-electric system,” said Nathan Muir, assistant vice president, Acura Canada, in a news release. “The RDX has been very popular with Canadians since its introduction in 2006, this new hybrid model diversifies the Acura family as we will soon offer a mix of hybrid, EV and ICE models, all part of our strategy to provide our customers with a variety of premium and performance focused vehicles.”
The automaker said the next-gen RDX is currently in development.
Past 20 years of RDX production
The company sold approximately 850,000 RDXs in North America since it launched nearly 20 years ago. The RDX was the company’s first compact premium SUV.

The first generation model launched for the 2007 model year.

The second-gen model arrived for 2013.

The current third-generation RDX launched for the 2019 model year.
