Hyundai once again sells Canada’s cheapest new car.
Not only that, the Korean automaker now sells Canada’s two cheapest new vehicles, while its sibling brand Kia is not far behind.
The Hyundai Venue, a small crossover with a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $21,999, is now the lowest-priced vehicle in Canada for the 2026 model year.
Coming in at No. 2 is Hyundai’s popular Elantra compact sedan, which costs a grand more than the Venue.
Kia comes in the numbers 3 and 4 spots with the K4 compact sedan (starting MSRP of $24,295) and the newly launched K4 Hatchback, a hatchback version of the K4 sedan ($24,795).
Just keep in mind automakers continually adjust prices and the above noted MSRPs are based on information available on Jan. 11, 2026. The MSRP doesn’t include various fees and levies, such as freight and destination charges, and dealer fees.
How did Hyundai get to No. 1?
Car buyers may remember a time when Hyundai’s Accent was marketed as the cheapest new car you could buy in the country.
In its cheapest configuration, the Accent was a manual-everything subcompact car that was as frugal on gas as it was cheap to buy.
Well, that was in the late-2000s and much time has passed since then.
Hyundai lost the cheapest new car title through the 2010s and early 2020, as several automakers undercut Hyundai’s cheapest car while the Accent also increased in price as the years went by. The Accent was then retired in 2017.
But, other automakers also discontinued their cheapest models since then.
Cars such as the Chevrolet Spark, Nissan Micra, Nissan Versa, Mitsubishi Mirage and Kia Rio, which undercut anything Hyundai sold in Canada, have all been discontinued.
And so that brought the title of having the most affordable new vehicle back to Hyundai in 2026.
