Kia is continuing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio, debuting the urban-sized EV2.

The company did not say if the EV2 would be coming to Canada.

Production is set to start in early 2026, while market launch timing will be announced at future dates.

The EV2 will slot in below the EV3 in Kia’s electric vehicle lineup. We’re still awaiting Canadian market launch details of the EV3, which was named the world car of the year in 2025.

With dimensions of 4,060 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,575 mm tall, the EV2 is made for urban settings.

The EV3, for example, is 4,300 mm long. The EV2 is also smaller than the now-discontinued boxy Kia Soul, which measured 4,195 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall.

With the EV2, Kia said it will offer above-its-class interior space, as well as flexibility and an easy driving experience in urban environments.

Powertrains and batteries

Multiple powertrain options are planned for the EV2.

There will be models with battery capacities of 42.2 kWh and 61 kWh, delivering estimated driving ranges up to 317 kilometres and 448 kilometres. That’s based by WLTP testing standards observed in Europe and would be estimated lower than that based on North American testing standards.

On-board AC charging adapters will support Level 2 charging rates of 11 kW on the smaller battery and 22 kW on the larger one.

Tech

As is typical of Kia, the EV2 will be loaded up with screens.

A panoramic display combines a 12.3-inch driver display, five-inch climate-control panel, and 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

The small electric SUV is also planned to be available in a sportier EV2 GT Line trim.

“With the Kia EV2, we are expanding the reach of Kia’s electric mobility to customers who want a compact car that still feels spacious, capable and emotionally rewarding. EV2 reflects our commitment to practical innovation – bringing advanced EV technology, thoughtful design and everyday usability into a model created for the way people live and move in cities around the world,” said Ho Sung Song, president and CEO of Kia, in a news release.

Production will begin with the standard-range model followed by long-range and GT Line versions after.

Kia also revealed the GT versions of three of its other electric vehicles.

The company, however, did not say if the EV3 GT, EV4 Hatchback GT or EV5 GT would be available in Canada.

These are higher performance versions of the EV3, EV4 and EV5, each one offering a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain.

In the case of the EV3 GT and EV4 Hatchback GT, the vehicles would get a power output of 288 hp (215 kW). A power output for the EV5 GT wasn’t specified.

The EV3 GT, EV4 Hatchback GT and EV5 GT are scheduled to go into production in the second half of 2026.
