It’s no mirage, Mitsubishi Canada sold nearly 2,000 discontinued cars in 2025

The Mitsubishi Mirage was Canada’s cheapest new car until it was discontinued at the end of 2024. Even so, it managed to find 1,776 buyers in 2025.

Clearly Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada doesn’t need the cheapest car in the country to have a strong sales year.

After all, the company’s two most expensive vehicles were also its bestsellers, representing more than half of all sales in 2025.

Even so, there were plenty of Canadian buyers after what had been Canada’s cheapest new car until it was discontinued at the end of 2024.

In a year-end roundup of vehicle sales for 2025, Mitsubishi Canada reported selling 1,776 Mirage cars – each one was a remaining car from the 2024 model year as the micro car wasn’t available in Canada for the 2025 model year.

Can you still buy a new Mirage?

People still hoping to get their hands on a brand-new Mirage are out of luck.

All remaining stock of the Mirage has been sold in Canada, a company spokesperson said.

After the Mirage was discontinued, it was supplanted by the Nissan Versa as the cheapest new car in Canada in 2025, which has since been supplanted by the Hyundai Venue for the 2026 model year.

Mitsubishi’s second-best year

Mitsubishi reported its second-best selling year in Canada with 37,335 vehicles sold in 2025, a 4.1 per cent decrease from 2024, its top year.

The Outlander was the company’s bestseller with 12,688 vehicles moved, followed by the Outlander PHEV with 8,899.

Combined, the Outlander and Outlander PHEV represented 58 per cent of all Mitsubishi vehicle sales in Canada in 2025.

The Outlander PHEV was also the highest selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in the country for a third straight year, the company said.

The Outlander PHEV is also getting a mid-cycle refresh for the 2026 model year, giving the compact three-row SUV more electric range and more standard comfort features.
