Canada’s largest automaker has announced a major milestone.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC), which has assembly plants in Cambridge and Woodstock, has announced it has produced its two-millionth Lexus RX.
The feat was announced Dec. 9, but happened a week earlier.
The two-millionth RX was made at the company’s South Plant in Cambridge.
“The Lexus RX continues to be a favourite among drivers across North America, and we thank our team members for their skill, dedication, and commitment to craftsmanship, which ensure every vehicle meets the highest standards of luxury and quality,” TMMC president Tim Hollander said in a news release.
TMMC has been assembling the Lexus RX since 2003, making it the first Lexus vehicle ever produced outside Japan.
Today, the plant is the only facility outside of Japan that produces two Lexus vehicles. The South Plant also makes the Lexus NX.

The automaker said the RX represents 32 per cent of all Lexus sales in Canada. The company has sold 145,000 RX vehicles in Canada since its assembly began here in 2003. Additionally, 94.2 per cent of all RX vehicles sold in Canada are made at TMMC.
TMMC has two production lines in Cambridge and one in Woodstock, employing a combined 8,500 people.
The company has a manufacturing capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year and currently assembles the RX 350, RX 350h and RX 500h versions of the RX, as well as various NX models and the Toyota RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid.
