An open-top version of the G-wagen is set to make a comeback soon.

Mercedes-Benz released a few teaser images of the upcoming G-Class Cabriolet and said the off-road SUV is already undergoing testing.

Mercedes hasn’t produced a G-Class Cabriolet since it created a Maybach version in 2017, which was limited to just 99 vehicles worldwide. Aside from the ultra-rare special model, the last G-Class Cabiolet was available until 2013.

Testing of the new G-Class Cabriolet is now underway in Austria.

“Engineers are gathering comprehensive data to ensure that the open-top driving experience of the G‑Class Cabriolet is promising an unparalleled and unmistakable G‑Class feeling for future drivers,” the automaker said in a news release.

After Austria, the vehicle will be taken to Sweden where the convertible SUV will undergo a demanding winter test.

“Facing icy temperatures and snowy landscapes, the newcomer’s robustness, driving dynamics, and reliability will be thoroughly proven,” the company said.

Mercedes-Benz said it will share more details about the upcoming open-top G-wagen in the future.
