If you’re someone who can’t even afford a garden-variety Mercedes-Benz, then you are probably reading this article mostly for curiosity’s sake.

And we’re here to reward your curiosity.

The Canadian pricing of the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 has been revealed as the online configurator has opened on the automaker’s Canadian website.

Drum roll … and the starting price tag is $315,000.

That’s the starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), which doesn’t include various mandatory and dealer fees and levies. It also doesn’t include Canada’s luxury tax, which is tacked on to vehicles with a price tag of more than $100,000. Calculating the luxury tax is a bit complicated, but based on an online tax calculator, the luxury tax on a vehicle worth $315,000 would come to $21,500. Then you have to pay your usual sales tax on top of that.

What is the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680?

Mercedes-Benz launched the car for the 2026 model year. It is the most opulent version of the company’s SL roadster.

The former Mercedes-Benz SL 500 is no longer available as the roadster is now offered only in AMG form, well, at least ’til now.

As of this writing, the Mercedes-AMG SL roadster can be had in Canada in SL 43, SL 55 and SL 63 varieties.

The lowest priced of them, the SL 43 has a starting MSRP of $132,900, but the Maybach version shares its powertrain with the AMG top dog, the SL 63, which has a starting MSRP of $225,000.

The car’s handbuilt AMG 4-litre biturbo V8 produces 577 hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque. Power is sent to the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system via a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

The car also has rear-axle steering for improved road comfort and agility and an electronically controlled rear-axle locking differential for improved traction in slippery conditions.

The Maybach takes the AMG SL 63 and ups the luxury quotient. It also ditches the rear seats, making the Maybach a two-seater.

Improved ride comfort

The suspension features semi-active, hydraulic roll stabilization, which the automaker said increases ride comfort, regardless of the situation, whether on a straight road, driving over bumps or taking a turn.

The suspension includes Maybach-specific valves for the damper hydraulics and softer steel springs, for better absorption of uneven roads.

Other features, including new front-axle head bearings, modifications to the elastokinematics and Pirelli P Zero tires, also contribute to ride comfort.

The gas pedal characteristics were also changed, for a smoother, more refined acceleration.

Quieter cabin

The Maybach SL also gets increased sound insulation to reduce road noise.

Sound insulation includes acoustic fleeces, aluminum butyl surfaces and acoustic foams and more.

Additionally, the car’s exhaust system was also optimized to reduce noise. This included increased insulation and a quieter muffler that features inlays made of recyclable fibreglass textile.

The interior features Manufaktur-exclusive sustainably tanned crystal white Nappa leather with floral design on the seats, door panels, centre console and behind the seats.

The galvanized seat backrests and trim parts consist of silver chrome.

Exterior differences

The Maybach roadster is distinguished from other SL cars with various design changes, including a brand-specific, chrome-finished radiator grille, which is illuminated and has integrated Maybach lettering.

The front apron is also changed, featuring horizontal air intakes and chrome trim. The windscreen frame is finished in gleaming chrome.

There’s a rose gold accent in the headlights and an upright Mercedes star on the hood.

The taillights feature the Maybach logo, plus there’s a brand-specific rear apron and tailpipe trim.

There’s also a double scoop behind the seats to create a unique appearance.

The soft top consists of a light black fabric with a discreet anthracite-coloured Maybach pattern. This fabric also offers greater sound insulation.

Buyers can also request an obsidian black hood, which features an integrated Maybach pattern.
