The Subaru Solterra electric SUV got a pretty significant update for 2026, and yet its price is lower in Canada.
The starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the 2026 Solterra is $52,295, which is $4,000 cheaper than the 2024 Solterra, Subaru Canada announced. There was no 2025 model year available.
The new Solterra gets a 77-kWh lithium-ion battery and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 338 hp.
Subaru said the new Solterra will deliver a maximum driving range of 446 kilometres, which is more than 25 per cent better than the outgoing model, and power is increased by 57 per cent compared to the 2024 Solterra with all-wheel drive.
Zero to 100 km/h acceleration is said to be less than five seconds.
The Solterra is based on the Toyota bZ, but the Subaru skips the front-wheel-drive drivetrain and goes straight for all-wheel drive.
The symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive system features an X-Mode dual-mode system with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes. The system also includes grip control and downhill assist control for improved traction in low-grip and off-road conditions.
Ground clearance is 210 millimetres.
The new version gets a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge port. At DC fast-charging charging speeds of 150 kW, the Solterra is said to recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes. The on-board charger for Level 2 charging can charge at a rate of up 11 kW.
More technology
The Solterra gets Subaru’s EyeSight drive-assist technologies, including pre-collision braking, front cross traffic alert, blind-spot monitors, lane departure alert, a panoramic view monitor, emergency stop assist, traffic jam assist, lane-change assist, advanced adaptive cruise control and more.
On the inside, there’s a new 14-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, 15-watt wireless smartphone chargers up front and USB-C chargers in the rear.
Updated styling
The styling was also updated with new lighting, including redesigned headlights and six-star illuminated logo, plus a new front bumper design, new 18- and 20-inch wheels and other new elements.
Subaru said the updated interior design gives occupants a better view of the road thanks to a low centre touchscreen and an open greenhouse.
