Check out concept cars from the Japan Mobility Show

The auto show in Tokyo has seen concept, prototypes and future models from Toyota, Lexus, Century, Mazda, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi and Nissan.

The Japan Mobility Show is a showcase of what’s coming next from Japan’s automakers.

This year’s event, continuing until Nov. 9 in Tokyo, has seen numerous concept vehicles shown.

While not immediately meant for production, concept cars are a way for automakers to show where they are headed with upcoming models.

Below are images, provided by the automakers, of some of the Japanese concept cars that have been unveiled at the automotive extravaganza.

Century

Toyota’s Century, which is currently a line of luxury Toyota vehicles, will be turned into a luxury brand of its own, one that is positioned above Lexus – think of vehicles meant to compete with brands such as Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Among the Century possibilities is a two-door Century Concept model that the automaker unveiled at the event.

Lexus

Toyota also showed off a few Lexus concept models, including the LS Concept, LS Coupe Concept and Sport Concept.

The LS Coupe Concept is not a coupe at all but a type of sporty SUV with a sloping roofline,

Lexus Sport Concept

The Sport Concept is actually a coupe.

Toyota

Toyota Corolla Concept
The Toyota Corolla Concept indicates a future with multiple powertrain types for future Corollas. – Toyota photo

Over on the Toyota side, the automaker revealed the Corolla Concept.

The modern take on the compact sedan has bold styling and promises numerous powertrain options, including battery-electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid, hybrid or internal combustion engine.

Honda

Honda 0 a

Honda presented a prototype, not a concept, of an upcoming next-generation EV, the Honda 0 a (with the a standing for alpha). The model joins the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV in the automaker’s 0 series of vehicles.

Another mode, which is unlikely to ever come to North America, is the Super-ONE Prototype.

Mazda

Mazda unveiled two concepts, the Vision X-Coupe and the Vision X-Compact.

The Vision X-Coupe could be said it resembles the Mazda3 Sport, but longer and more futuristic. The model would also feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain with 500-plus hp.

Mazda Vision X-Compact

The Vision X-Compact represents the company’s vision for future smart mobility, Mazda said.

Subaru

Subaru unveiled two STI concept vehicles.

One is the Performance-E STI concept, which is a battery-electric vehicle.

The other is the Performance-B STI concept, a hot hatch with an internal combustion engine.

Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi had some fun in unveiling several concepts.

One is the Elevance Concept, an electrified SUV with a quad-motor four-wheel-drive drivetrain and built for adventuring.

Mitsubishi Delica D:5 prototype
This prototype Delica D:5 is intended to take the minivan off-road. – Mitsubishi photo

The automaker also showed the Delica D:5 prototype, an all-around minivan that adds a touch of SUV off-road capability.

Nissan

Nissan stayed busy unveiling upcoming production models, not concept vehicles, but one is worth highlighting as it looks like it belongs on the list of concept vehicles.
