Honda has been manufacturing cars in Canada since 1986 and is now celebrating 11 million vehicles produced here.
The milestone was achieved when a 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid in a catching Rallye Red colour rolled off Honda of Canada Mfg. assembly line in Alliston, Ont., the company announced Wednesday, Oct. 15.
“Eleven million cars later, Honda of Canada Mfg. associates and our supply chain partners continue to demonstrate the best in North American manufacturing, thanks to the flexible manufacturing Honda is known for,” said Dave Jamieson, president and CEO of Honda Canada, in a news release.
“Thank you to all our associates, our partners, suppliers and the local Alliston community for being integral to HCM’s legacy. As Canada’s second largest auto manufacturer, Honda has consistently maintained its manufacturing operations since 1986. We remain committed to Canada and its robust manufacturing ecosystem, with Ontario’s business-friendly environment continuing to foster our growth and innovation.”
Honda became the first Japanese automaker to establish a production facility in Canada, when it opened in 1986.
The first model produced at the Alliston facility was the Honda Accord.
Since then, Honda of Canada Mfg. has produced Honda models such as the Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline, as well as the Acura models EL, MDX and ZDX.
Today, the plant produces Honda’s Civic sedan and the CR-V sport utility vehicle.
“I would like to thank and congratulate all of our highly skilled associates at HCM for helping us reach this milestone through their hard work and commitment to quality,” said Bobbi Curran, vice president, Honda of Canada Mfg., in the release
“Within today’s challenging manufacturing environment, we continue to maintain production to meet the robust demand for the popular CR-V and Civic. HCM and our associates have earned a reputation for quality and leadership within the Honda manufacturing family and I look forward to celebrating more achievements in the future.”
Honda of Canada Mfg. had assembled one million vehicles in just a few short years as the plant celebrated 10 millions vehicles made in 2023.
About Honda’s Alliston facility
Honda of Canada Mfg. is comprised of two manufacturing plants in Alliston, producing more than 400,000 vehicles annually and employing approximately 4,200 people.
Honda Canada estimates the production facility creates an additional 30,000 spin-off jobs.
Furthermore, about 69 per cent of Honda vehicles sold in Canada are made in Canada. In fact, the 2025 Canadian car of the year is the Alliston-made Civic Hybrid, the very same vehicle model that happened to be the 11-millionth vehicle made by Honda in Canada.
