Sporty wagons appear to be making a comeback, with Mercedes-Benz being the latest automaker to introduce midsize versions of such cars to the Canadian market.
This comes not long after BMW introduced the M5 Touring in Canada.
In the case of the Mercedes cars, the automaker is adding wagon versions of its E-Class.
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain Wagon and Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon will become available this fall.
They join the E-Class sedans in the Canadian lineup, which include the E 350 and E 450 versions and the Mercedes-AMG E 53 version.
For the non-AMG version of the wagon, Mercedes said the car has a healthy 615 litres of luggage space in the trunk or 1,830 litres when the 40:20:40 split rear seats are folded down.

Mercedes-Benz E 450
The E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain Wagon is powered by a turbocharged 3-litre inline-six-cylinder engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology.
The I6 engine produces 375 hp and 369 lb.-ft. of torque, while the mild-hybrid e-motor with an integrated starter-generator offers 23 hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque.
Power is sent to the all-wheel-drive system via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Zero to 100 km/h is said to arrive at an estimated 4.7 seconds.
The car also has a standard Airmatic air suspension with an off-road mode.
To enhance off-road capability, the car’s screen offers a “transparent hood” display, as part of the 360-degree camera view.
Other off-road elements include a unique grille, special bumpers, chrome front and rear underride guard and dark grey wheel arch cladding.
The car rides on 19-inch wheels and 20-inch rollers are available.
Mercedes said this latest version of the E-Class All-Terrain is 28 millimetres wider and the wheelbase is 22 millimetres longer than the previous version. Both of these increases result in more elbow room, knee room and leg room for second-row passengers.
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz E 450 Wagon has a starting Canadian manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $92,250, which doesn’t include various fees, levies or taxes.

Mercedes-AMG E 53
The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon is the first time Mercedes is offering a hybrid-powered performance wagon in Canada.
The plug-in hybrid car is powered by an AMG-enhanced turbocharged 3-litre inline-six-cylinder engine mated with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor.
Total system output is 577 hp (or 604 hp with the optional Race Start 2 package) and 553 lb.-ft. of torque.
Power is sent to the AMG 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system via an AMG Speedshift TCT nine-speed automatic transmission.
Zero to 100 km/h is said to arrive in an estimated 4.1 seconds, or 3.9 seconds with Race Start 2.
What’s more, the car is capable of driving at speeds of up to 140 km/h on electric power.

The car gets standard active rear-axle steering and an AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive adjustable damping for increased dynamics and agility.
Buyers can also opt for the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, which includes Race Start, increases the top speed to 280 km/h (up from 250 km/h), and adds active engine mounts, an electronically controlled AMG limited-slip rear differential, AMG Performance steering wheel, which is finished in Nappa leather and microfibre, AMG high-performance composite brakes with red AMG calipers and 15.4-inch front brake discs.
The car rides on 20-inch 10-twin-spoke wheels or optional 21-inch AMG forged cross-spoke wheels, which are available in several finishes.
The car is available in 12 exterior colours, including four Manufaktur colours.
Buyers can also choose the AMG Night Package, the AMG Night Package Plus or AMG Exterior Carbon Fibre Package.

The interior can be personalized as well.
Some of the interior choices include the AMG Artico/Microfibre and AMG Nappa leather upholsteries, AMG Performance Seat Package Advanced, AMG Performance steering wheel.
