Toyota is kicking it old school with a version of the Corolla Hatchback that is available now in Canada, but just for a limited time.

The Corolla Hatchback FX Edition is new for 2026 and features styling inspired by the 1987 Corolla FX16.

Only 150 of these special edition cars will be sold in Canada.

“Toyota has evoked the spirit of the well-loved Corolla FX16 by adding a limited-production, retro-inspired Corolla Hatchback to the lineup for 2026,” said Robert Tsang, vice president, Toyota Canada Inc., in a news release “No matter the grade, the Corolla Hatchback delivers an incredible combination of fun, versatility, safety, and value – making it a standout example of Toyota’s commitment to offering something for everyone through a broad portfolio of vehicles.”

The Corolla Hatchback is powered by a 2-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission. The powertrain produces 169 hp and has a fuel efficiency rating of 6.8 L/100 km in city-highway combined driving.

The FX Edition is available in just one exterior colour in Canada – white.

On the outside, the car has a black, vented sport wing, 18-inch gloss white alloy wheels with black lug nuts, and a heritage inspired rear badge.

On the inside, the FX gets heated sport seats with suede inserts, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an eight-speaker JBL audio system. There’s also bright orange stitching accents – including on the seats, steering wheel, and shifter boot.

Other upgrades to the car include a power adjustable driver’s seat, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, a wireless charging dock for personal electronics, and the blind spot monitor system with safe exit assist.

2026 Corolla sedan

Toyota Canada also announced pricing on the 2026 Corolla sedan, which has both a slightly lower starting price than the hatchback, but also tops out at a higher price than the most expensive hatchback version.

Part of the reason why the sedan tops out at higher prices is that it has an available hybrid powertrain with available all-wheel drive, whereas the hatchback does not.

For 2026, the Corolla sedan is available in six grades with the same internal combustion engine as the hatchback, producing 169 hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque.

The car is also available with a hybrid powertrain featuring a 1.8-litre Atkinson Cycle engine, a high-torque electric motor-generator system with a lithium-ion battery and a CVT.

The hybrid produces 138 hp and has a fuel-efficiency rating of 4.4 L/100 km in city-highway combined driving.

All-wheel-drive versions feature an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, which provides on-demand all-wheel drive.
