Ferrari has revived the Testarossa name for its newest supercar.
The automaker unveiled the 849 Testarossa in Milan, with the plug-in hybrid-powered super sports car serving as a direct replacement to the SF90 Stradale in Ferrari’s lineup.
The newest model is available as a coupe or convertible.

Powertrain
Ferrari says the heart of the 849 Testarossa revolves around its powertrain.
The car is powered by the latest version of Ferrari’s 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces 819 hp, mated with three electric motors, which provide 217 hp.
Total system output is 1,036 hp (or 1,050 Italian cavalli).
Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch F1 gearbox.
The power output is 50 hp greater than the SF90 Stradale’s.
Ferrari said the increased power is thanks to an all-new turbocharger, cylinder heads, engine block, exhaust manifolds, intake plenums, titanium fasteners, valve train system, and fuel rail.
The new, larger turbocharger has been adopted with F80-derived low-friction bearings and a 296 GT3-inspired heat shield on the turbine casing, which improves thermal management in the engine compartment, Ferrari said.
Power was increased without significant weight gain, with the weight to power ratio improved by nearly 10 per cent compared to the SF90 Stradale, Ferrari said.
Ferrari said the car’s design creates a synergy of form and function, by providing superior aerodynamic performance.
Regardless of whether its the coupe (berlinetta) or convertible (spider), the car achieves a total downforce of 415 kilograms at 250 km/h, which is an increase of 25 kilograms over the SF90 Stradale. Furthermore, the car achieves a 15 per cent increase in cooling power for the powertrain and brakes.

Performance figures
Ferrari provides a host of performance figures for the car.
The 849 Testarossa (coupe) achieves the following figures:
- Maximum speed – greater than 330 km/h
- 0-100 km/h – less than 2.3 seconds
- 0-200 km/h – 6.35 seconds
- 100-0 km/h – 28.5 metres
- 200-0 km/h – 108.0 metres
Furthermore, Ferrari lapped the Fiorano test track in a time of 1:17:500 minutes.
The 849 Testarossa Spider (convertible) achieves the following figures:
- Maximum speed – greater than 330 km/h
- 0-100 km/h – less than 2.3 seconds
- 0-200 km/h – 6.5 seconds
- 100-0 km/h – 28.5 mmetres
The spider’s Fiorano lap time came in at 1:18:100 minutes.

Interior
Ferrari said the cockpit is more enveloping and ergonomic than before.
This includes a central sail motif that includes an integrated gear-change gate, one inspired by the F80, which is intended to be more accessible.
The new steering wheel features mechanical buttons, including the engine-start button.
And, the updated human-machine interface is said to make interactions with the car simpler and more intuitive.
Buyers can choose from two seat types, either comfort or the carbon-fibre racing seat.
The comfort seat is sculpted and upholstered to match the styling of the cockpit. The racing seat provides increased side bolsters for lateral containment.

Exterior styling
Ferrari said the 849 Testarossa is a revolution of the SF90 Stradale with an emphasis on the car’s technology and performance characteristics.
The car’s vertical and transverse lines were inspired by aeronautics and sports prototypes of the 1970s.
The car also takes elements from the 512 S, the 12Cilinidri and F80 cars.

Assetto Fiorano trim
Ferrari is offering an optional Assetto Fiorano trim on the car, which includes exclusive content that can’t be added to the car without opting for the available trim.
The Assetto Fiorano trim is intended to maximize the car’s dynamics and aerodynamics.
Weight is reduced by about 30 kilograms thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre and titanium.
There are also some exterior design elements that are changed on the Assetto Fiorano trim, including larger flicks on the front and an additional pair of vortex generators on the front underfloor. At the back, two twin wings replace the twin tails.

The cars also get stiffer, single-rate Multimatic shock absorbers, lighter springs and a roll gradient reduced by 10 per cent, which improves body control and aerodynamics.
A front lifter is also available, a first on a car with the Assetto Fiorano trim.
Assetto Fiorano cars can be specified in two exclusive livery schemes, Bianco Cervino or Rosso Corsa.
Ferrari said the 849 Testarossa offers a wide range of personalization options.

History of Testarossa name
The car’s name well predates the car that appeared on the “Miami Vice” TV show in the 1980s.
The name Testa Rossa was first used on the 1956 Ferrari 500 TR. It described the colour of the cam covers on some of Ferrari’s highest-performance racing engines.
Ferrari then created the Testarossa model, which launched in 1984.
The 849 Testarossa was created for the most demanding clients who want the very best from Ferrari, which is why the name was revived, the company said.
Ferrari didn’t provide pricing. The online configurators for the berlinetta and spider are open now.
