Mercedes-Benz is expanding the lineup of its most popular vehicle by creating an all-electric version of the GLC.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology is launching as the GLC 400 4MATIC model.
The midsize SUV is expected to join the Mercedes lineup in the first half of 2026, though Canadian market details haven’t been announced.
The immediate and obvious thing occupants will notice as they step into the electric SUV is the large screen.
The MBUX Hyperscreen measures 99.3 centimetres (39.1 inches) and pretty much replaces the entirety of the dashboard. It is the largest screen in any Mercedes-Benz vehicle to date.
The screen includes up to 11 background styles.
Powering the screen and many vehicle functions is the company’s latest AI-driven MB.OS superbrain. Mercedes-Benz said the operating system can handle complexity akin to the human brain and is capable of 254 trillion operations per second.

Powertrain
The electric GLC is much more than just a fancy OS and large screen.
The GLC 400 launch model will be the range-topping model with four other models to follow later.
The GLC 400 is powered by an all-wheel-drive propulsion system with 483 hp (360 kW) and an expected 713 kilometres of range. The estimated range is based on European testing and will likely be reported lower in North America.
The GLC 400 has a 2,400-kilogram (5,291 pounds) towing capacity.

Charging capacity
The GLC with EQ Technology features a lithium-ion battery with 94 kWh of usable capacity, and runs on an 800-volt architecture that allows for really fast charging.
Mercedes-Benz said the GLC can recharge up to 303 kilometres of range in 10 minutes of charging.

Smooth ride
Mercedes-Benz fitted the GLC with its One-Box braking system, which the automaker says gives the vehicle a smooth, consistent and assured deceleration, whether that’s through energy recovery or friction braking.
An intelligent air suspension, which S-Class owners will be familiar with, makes its way into the GLC, for superior ride quality, while 4.5-degree rear-axle steering improves agility.

Driver assistance systems
Drivers also get the assurance of the SUV’s MB.Drive system, which includes up to 10 external cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors for what Mercedes-Benz calls first-class advanced driver assistance.

Interior design
There’s more to the interior than a large screen.
Occupants will be welcomed into the cabin with ambient lighting that even illuminates the panoramic roof.
Among the high-quality interior materials is an optional Vegan Package that allows buyers to choose from interior materials certified by the Vegan Society.

Exterior design
Perhaps even more obvious than the large screen on the inside may be the large nose on the outside.
The GLC is the inaugural Mercedes-Benz model with the company’s new illuminated chromed grille, which will make its way to future models.

“The all-new electric GLC is the result of an intensive dialogue with our customers – a vehicle that impresses across the board with everyday practicality, high range and powerful driving dynamics. The entire driving experience embodies what makes a Mercedes-Benz: comfort, safety and the feeling of having arrived – Welcome Home,” said Mathias Geisen, board member, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, in a news release.
