Honda has finally unveiled the long-anticipated revived Prelude, with the sporty two-door car debuting in North America for the 2026 model year.
We’ve got the photos of the inside and out, we’ve got the specs, but the only thing we’re waiting on is the Canadian price. The price should be announced closer to when the car actually goes on sale here.
The 2+2 coupe is expected to become available in Canada in late 2025. The previous Prelude was last available here for the 2001 model year.
“Just mentioning the Prelude brings a rush of nostalgia and fond memories for generations of Canadians that grew up with one of Honda’s most storied nameplates,” said Emile Korkor, Assistant vice president, Honda Canada, in a news release. “The return of the iconic Prelude demonstrates Honda’s passion for the ‘joy of driving’ while engineering a modern, hybrid vehicle that solidifies our commitment to an electrified future.”
The car is powered by the same hybrid powertrain that powers the Civic Hybrid. The powertrain features a 2-litre Atkinson cycle direct inject gasoline engine mated with two electric motors, producing a total of 200 hp and 232 lb.-ft. of torque.
The car also debuts Honda S+ Shift, a drive mode that simulates manual transmission functions such as rev-matched downshifts and enhanced engine sounds for increased engagement.

Type R enhancements
While the car won’t get a stick shift, Honda means business when it comes to the joy of driving.
The Prelude benefits from the components taken straight out of the Civic Type R.
This includes the Type R’s dual-axis strut front suspension, wide front and rear tracks and large brakes originally designed for the hot hatch.
The suspension and brakes are tuned for the Prelude, including an adaptive damper system, which Honda said will offer a sporty yet comfortable grand touring experience with elevated levels of driver exhilaration and engagement.
Selectable drive modes give drivers choices of Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual, putting them in control of various performance settings for powertrain response, steering assist level, suspension damping, engine sound, gauge cluster layout and adaptive cruise-control.
A feature called Honda Agile Handling Assist is said to improve handling and driver confidence through an integrated control of the powertrain and braking system based on the driver’s steering.
Despite the car’s sporty intention, Honda points out it offers a fairly comfortable cabin, including 32 inches of rear-seat legroom.
Thanks to the Prelude’s liftback body style, you get a generous trunk area that can expand with the 60/40 split folding seatbacks.
