Tim Hortons will be bringing together coffee and electric cars at many of its locations across Canada.
The coffee restaurant chain announced a partnership with FLO, a Quebec-based electric vehicle charging company, to install EV fast chargers at 100 of its locations across the country by the end of 2028.
“We’re thrilled to partner with FLO to make life a little easier for guests driving electric vehicles. Whether it’s grabbing a coffee and a charge before work, or taking a break on a road trip, we want every Tims run to be convenient, welcoming, and a highlight of the journey,” said Hope Bagozzi, chief marketing officer for Tim Hortons, in a news release.
The company plans to have fast chargers available at locations in all 10 provinces.
The first is already open, at the Tims at 3810 Chuka Blvd. in Regina, Sask.
The company expects to have 13 more up and running before the end of this year and plans to have up to 50 operational before the end of 2026.
The company said each restaurant locations will have an average of four charging spots available.
“This partnership with Tim Hortons marks a pivotal moment in making EV charging a seamless part of everyday life for Canadians,” said FLO president and CEO Louis Tremblay in the release. “By installing FLO Ultra chargers at trusted, well-visited locations, we’re not only building the reliable infrastructure EV drivers need but also empowering Canadians to confidently accelerate their transition to electric mobility.”
The FLO Ultra units are Level 3 chargers. Tim Hortons said the units at its restaurants will be able provide EVs with up to 120 kilometres of range in as little as 10 minutes of charging.
According to the FLO website, the company’s FLO Ultra units are capable of a charging output of 320 kW, and up to 500 kW (combined) when multiple vehicles are plugged into a charging station. Keep in mind, actual charging speed depends on the vehicle, configuration and the number of cars charging.
