Chevrolet has been showing off a lot of Corvette concept cars of late and this article looks at the two most recent examples.
The automaker unveiled the Corvette CX and Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo concepts on Aug. 15.
This pair is noteworthy for two reasons.
For starters, the automaker said the concept cars, while not intended for production, will inspire the future Corvette design language.
Secondly, both cars will be playable in the “Gran Turismo 7” video game.

“While the shape of a Corvette has always been expressive and forward-looking, each crease and line has its roots in the generations that came before it. It is aspirational, it is cultural, it is the reason people want to come and work at Chevrolet,” said Phil Zak, executive design director for Chevrolet, in a news release. “The CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo demonstrate our design teams stepping away from the constraints of production vehicles and unleashing their creativity. Through this exercise, we’ve added to Corvette and defined the design direction for Corvette moving forward.”

Corvette CX
The CX is imagined as an electric supercar.
Its four-motor propulsion system would have all-wheel drive, one motor per wheel, generating more than 2,000 hp, while a 90-kWh lithium-ion battery would supply the juices to the electric motors.
The battery would be mounted in the chassis for a low centre of gravity and what Chevrolet called an ideal front-rear weight distribution.

Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo
The CX.R VGT is imagined as a supercar with an electrified (hybrid) powertrain featuring a 2-litre high-revving V8 engine producing 900 hp and revving up to 15,000 rpm.
The engine’s power would be sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, plus the car would get extra power from three electric motors, one at each front wheel and a third incorporated into the transmission.
Combined, Chevrolet envisions 2,000 hp.

Gran Turismo 7
The folks at Chevrolet created the blueprints for both cars and worked with Polyphony Digital Inc. to make both cars available in “Gran Turismo 7.”
They will be available in the game later in August.
