Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon looks like something straight out of ‘Need for Speed’

The Liquid Carbon versions takes your regular GTD and gives it more carbon fibre and removes the paint to save weight.

Perhaps one of the most satisfying things in “Need for Speed” video games is heading to the tuning shop to see all the new performance upgrades and vehicle body parts you’ve unlocked after a big race.

Then you watch your car transform as you select from new body kits, spoilers, hoods, air scoops, wheels, colours and other options until your car looks nothing like the original.

It appears the designers at Ford get their kicks in doing just that, but they get to do it in real life.

Ford has unveiled the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon and it looks like something straight out of a “Need for Speed” video game, and we’re talking close to the end of the game once all the best parts are unlocked.

The Liquid Carbon builds on the already bonkers GTD, but replaces the sheet metal in the doors with carbon fibre and removes the exterior paint all in the name of saving weight.

What’s more, you can see the exposed carbon-fibre weave right on the body of the car.

The car also gets unique black Brembo brake calipers, and now the carbon-fibre weave in the fenders and side panels matches up to the dorsal elements of the car.

“High performance requires high precision. When we were designing Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon, it was essential that these small details were present, because they speak to the care and attention required to both build a vehicle like Mustang GTD and to compete and win on the world’s stage with Mustang GT3,” said Mustang GTD design manager Anthony Colard.

Like the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, the Liquid Carbon model gets the Performance package as standard.

Ford said the car shaves about 13 pounds off the Mustang GTD Carbon Series with the Performance package.

Ford did not provide pricing for the GTD Liquid Carbon.

The automaker doesn’t advertise the pricing of the GTD, but reporting in the United States places the car as costing more than $300,000, and those are American dollars.

Expect to have to win a few more races to earn enough dough to move up to the GTD Liquid Carbon version.

Deliveries of the first Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon cars are expected in October.
