Hyundai has unveiled the high-performance Ioniq 6 N.

The electric four-door car was revealed July 10 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England.

Canadian market details, such is if or when the car would be available here, have not been announced.

What is the Ioniq 6 N?

The car is a high-performance version of the Ioniq 6 electric vehicle, which is sold in Canada. The Ioniq 6 was updated earlier this year.

The Hyundai N division packed the car with tons of power as well as numerous other go-fast goodies.

The automaker says the N is based around three pillars: corner rascal, racetrack capability and everyday sports car.

Let’s look at the powertrain.

Powertrain

The Ioniq 6 N gets massive power from its dual-motor powertrain.

The electric powertrain produces 641 hp (478 kW) and 568 lb.-ft. of torque.

That’s enough oomph to propel the car from zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, when using N Launch Control.

The car also has a top speed of 257 km/h (160 mph).

To make that power possible, the car needs the electric juices to make it happen.

For this reason, the Ioniq 6 N gets a revamped battery management system, which Hyundai calls N Battery. The system maintains the battery at an optimal temperature and adapts to track driving scenarios.

Hyundai says this system results in higher and longer-lasting performance. Additionally, the optimized thermal management control and the battery coolant heater’s increased capacity result in reduced conditioning time.

Dynamics

The Ioniq 6 N gets redesigned suspension geometry and a re-engineered chassis, intended to improve precision and road holding.

Hyundai says the revised components improve track performance but maintain ride comfort in daily driving.

The N also gets a lower roll centre, giving it better high-speed stability and cornering grip.

New stroke-sensing electronically controlled suspension dampers give the car a wider range of damping force adjustments, thereby increasing driving suitability for different scenarios.

Aerodynamics

The automaker says motorsports-inspired elements, including a swan neck rear wing and widened fenders, balance downforce and drag reduction, giving the car greater stability during hard cornering.

These features also give the N a visual distinction.

“Ioniq 6 N combines formidable power, sophisticated battery management, aerodynamic mastery and advanced suspension systems to deliver a compelling blend of speed, stability and comfort, setting new benchmarks in modern automotive engineering,” said Manfred Harrer, executive vice president and head of the vehicle development tech unit at Hyundai Motor Company, in a news release.

Driver engagement

The Ioniq 6 N also has various features intended to give the car a more traditional experience.

There’s the N e-Shift feature, which simulates gear changes, and the N Active Sound + system, which utilizes the stereo to give the N a sports car sound. Neither of these features would make the car faster, but they could make it more fun.

There’s also the N Track Manager, which drivers can use to analyze their on-track performance.

Other features do make the car faster.

The N Launch Control feature improves acceleration from standstill.

N Drift Optimizer gives the driver control over drift characteristics, allowing the driver to choose parameters for drift initiation, angle and wheel spin based on their skill and comfort level.

Activating N Grin Boost unlocks the car’s full power output for a short burst.

N Torque Distribution allows the driver to customize how much torque is distributed between the front and rear wheels.

Hyundai is also launching a range of N performance parts that will allow owners to personalize their rides.
