Porsche is steadily rolling out updated versions of its 911 sports car model range, with the latest update being to the Carrera 4S coupe and cabriolet and Targa 4S models.
The updated 4S models were announced July 2, with the newest versions launching for the 2026 model year.
The trio of cars feature all-wheel drive and slot in above non-S Carrera and Targa models and below GTS models in the 911 model range.

Powertrain
The newest trio of 4S models are powered by the same engine as the S models – S is for rear-wheel-drive versions and 4S is for all-wheel-drive versions.
Porsche said about half of all Carrera S buyers opt for the all-wheel-drive 4S version. Targa models are exclusively available with all-wheel drive.
The newest 4S cars are motivated by a 3-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo boxer engine with 473 hp.
That gives the new Carrera 4S and Targa 4S an additional 30 hp compared to previous 4S cars, and nearly 100 hp more than the current-gen non-S Carrera and Targa cars, which have 388 hp.
The motor sends power to the all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK).
The all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased; however, the car’s traction management system can increase more torque to the front axles, when required, for improved traction and stability.

Performance
Porsche said the 911 Carrera 4S Coupe will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package and has a top speed of 308 km/h.
The Carrera 4S Cabriolet and Targa 4S accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, according to Porsche. Their top speed is also 308 km/h.

Targa
The 911 Targa is celebrating its 60th anniversary.
The car is intended to combine the open-top fun of a convertible and the year-round comfort of a coupe.
Porsche launched the original 911 Targa in the United States during a time when concerns were raised about the safety of traditional convertibles. That original Targa, launched in September 1965, was called the “safety cabriolet.”
As of 2006, all Targa models are exclusively available with all-wheel drive.
As of 2014, Targa cars feature a fully automatic roof. The roof folds away and the glass rear window folds backwards.
Buyers can choose the Targa roof in black, blue, red or brown.

More standard features
The newest 4S models ride on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels with new design.
These cars also get Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+), a sports exhaust system and a braking system borrowed from the GTS models with red brake calipers with discs measuring 408 mm at front and 380 mm at the rear.
Standard four-wheel steering is also part of the equipment.
The cabriolet and Targa get standard rear seats while the coupe comes standard as a two-seater, while rear seats can be added as a no-cost option.
All all-wheel-drive models include leather on the interior.

Tech
Various technology features include matrix LED headlights, wireless phone charger, electronically folding side mirrors with mirror surround lighting, Porsche’s Light Design Package, automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with a rain sensor, lane departure warning and more.
