Ferrari has unveiled the all-new Amalfi four-seat grand tourer.
The coupe is a replacement to the Roma in Ferrari’s lineup and continues with the front-mounted mid-engine layout.
Ferrari doesn’t go so far as to call it a 2+2 car, stopping just short of that by referring to it as a 2+ coupe, which one must take that the rear seats are really intended for emergencies, such as when the saloon is unavailable.
The Amalfi is intended to continue offering the comfort and luxury of the Roma while significantly improving the car’s performance, utilizing technologies from Ferrari’s newer super sports cars.
The Amalfi has a 50:50 front/rear weight distribution.
“The Ferrari Amalfi is aimed at those seeking a car that combines elegance and performance, emotion and functionality. A model that interprets the Ferrari sporting spirit in a modern key, offering a driving experience without compromise, in any context,” Ferrari said in a news release.

Powertrain
The Amalfi gets the latest evolution of Ferrari’s F154 family of engines. This one is a twin-turbo 3.9-litre (3,855 cc) V8 engine producing 631 hp and 560 lb.-ft. of torque. The motor is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch F1 transmission.
Ferrari was able to push more power (up from 611 hp in the Roma) through an advanced turbocharging management system that allows for independent control of the rotational speed of the twin turbos, pushing the maximum turbo speed to 171,000 rpm.
The engine’s weight was reduced through a redesigned engine block, new lightweight camshafts and eliminating non-structural material.
Also, the engine uses low-viscosity oil, a Ferrari first, which reduces cold resistance and improves warm-up efficiency.
Ferrari said it was able to give the engine quicker throttle response through various advanced techniques, which gives the car the feeling of continuous and progressive power delivery with a torque curve with more pull at the mid and high revs.

Dynamics
The car gets new advanced technologies to improve vehicle dynamics, including brake-by-wire for improved braking efficiency and modulation, an updated ABS for improved breaking in mixed conditions, and a more advanced grip estimation system that was introduced in the 296 GTB but is now 10 per cent faster and more accurate.
There’s an active rear spoiler that can support vehicle dynamics during hard braking or high-speed cornering.
There’s also a host of driver safety and assistance systems.
An optional front lifter system can be used to raise the car by up to 40 mm to get over obstacles at speeds up to 35 km/h.

Performance
Ferrari provided some acceleration and stopping performance numbers.
Ferrari said the Amalfi can achieve the following:
- Top speed – 320 km/h
- Zero to 100 km/h – 3.3 seconds
- Zero to 200 km/h – 9.0 seconds
- 100-0 km/h – 30.8 metres
- 200-0 km/h – 119.5 metres

Interior
The Amalfi, while Ferrari fast, is a luxury car with various luxury features, including an optional Burmester premium audio system with 14 speakers and 1,200 watts of power.
The interior gets a dual-cockpit layout separating the driver and passenger.
Another option for buyers are comfort seats, which are available in three sizes and include 10 air chambers for the massage function, with five programs and three intensity levels to choose from. These seats also include ventilation for both the seat and backrest.

There’s plenty of tech inside, including an infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and there’s a wireless smartphone charger on-board. A MyFerrari Connect system allows owners to monitor their vehicle’s status remotely via an app.
The new steering wheel, digital instrument cluster and centre display feature what Ferrari calls a human-machine interface designed to engage the driver and passenger.

The instrument cluster measures 15.6 inches, the centre touchscreen is 10.25 inches and the passenger display measures 8.8 inches. The passenger display can be used for a co-driver experience such as showing the vehicle’s G-force levels or engine revs.
The steering wheel gains physical buttons and the return of Ferrari’s start button.
