Top-line 2026 GMC Hummer pickup to hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds

The updated Hummer also gets a new software-enabled King Crab off-road rear-steer mode for quicker rear-wheel turning.

The GMC Hummer EV is a beast of a truck and in 2026 buyers will be able to buy a version that accelerates quicker than a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

The extremely limited GMC Hummer EV Carbon Fibre Edition Pickup, which boasts 1,160 hp and 13,000 lb.-ft. of torque, is said to be able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.8 seconds. This is a pickup truck that’s approximately 9,000 pounds (more than 4,000 kilograms). To compare that to the Corvette, the base model hits that speed in 2.9 seconds.

The Carbon Fibre Edition is also available on the SUV version of the Hummer, but GMC didn’t provide an acceleration number for that model.

“The refreshed Hummer EV enhances an already amazing vehicle with new software innovations and forward-thinking design,” said Al Oppenheiser, GMC Hummer EV chief engineer, in a news release. “From the start, we aimed to provide Hummer EV owners over-the-air software updates. All 2026 Hummer EV owners will have access to our latest software going forward, allowing new features to be introduced throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.”

Beside nose-bleed-inducing acceleration, the Carbin Fibre Edition pickups and SUVs come with an exclusive Magnus Gray Matte exterior colour and Velocity Ember interior theme and colours.

Other standard features include:

  • Unique 22-inch carbon fibre black wheels
  • All-Terrain tires
  • Carbon fibre inserts in the base hood, mirror caps, and skid plate
  • Black approach shield
  • Black emblems
  • 22-inch spare carbon fiber black wheel (SUV only)

New King Crab feature

While its fun to look at what the top-line Hummers can do, only a few people will experience it as these SUVs and pickup trucks will be produced in limited numbers.

Luckily, the entire Hummer lineup is getting new features.

As of the 2026 model year all 2X and 3X pickup and SUV trims will come standard with the King Crab advanced rear-steer mode.

King Crab is a software-enabled improvement to the Hummer’s standard four-wheel steer system. When King Crab is activated, the rear wheels turn faster than the front wheels, which improves manoeuvrability when navigating tight spaces off-road, GMC said.

This feature is expected to become available to all 2022 to 2025 Hummers through an over-the-air update sometime later this year.

“King Crab fulfills a promise set at the Hummer EV Pickup’s original launch to deliver on the famed ‘Mystery Mode’ button where owners could submit their own ‘epic ideas’ to GMC,” the automaker said in a news release.

Other updates

The 2026 Hummer EV now comes standard with a three-year trial of the Super Cruise hands-free system.

The Hummer’s damper tuning has been updated for an improved ride quality, GMC said.

The 13.4-inch infotainment centre screen can be customized with a split-view screen for a more personalized experience. It includes up to eight years of voice control and navigation.

There are also a pair of new colours available, Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte, and two new interior themes, Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse.

The Hummer is built in Detroit. The 2026 models will begin production later this year and are expected to be available at GMC EV dealers later this year.

Pricing and driving range will be announced closer to the launch date.
