Hyundai Canada is continuing on its mission to support the health-care teams in children’s oncology.
The company, through its Hyundai Hope on Wheels charitable foundation, has donated $250,000 to the CHEO Foundation, which fundraises for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.
CHEO is considered a global leader in pediatric health care and research and serves young people from eastern and northern Ontario, western Quebec and Nunavut.
The hospital’s Hematology and Oncology Program provides care to children and youth with blood disorders and cancer.
“We are incredibly grateful to Hyundai Hope on Wheels for this generous gift. Their support is a powerful investment in the future of pediatric cancer care,” said CHEO Foundation president and CEO Steve Read in a news release. “At CHEO, we’re committed to providing world-class care and advancing treatment options for children and youth facing cancer. Partnerships like this one help make that possible – and bring renewed hope to families when they need it most.”
The cheque was presented during what Hyundai calls a Handprint Ceremony. Children and families affected by cancer are invited to leave their painted handprints on a Hyundai vehicle at the event.
Each handprint is meant to be a symbol of hope and resilience in the fight against childhood cancer and a reminder of the commitment of advancing research and care for young cancer patients.
“Today at CHEO, we’re proud to stand alongside world-class researchers, dedicated care teams, and inspiring young patients as we work toward a future without childhood cancer. This is only the beginning of our commitment — and we’re honoured to help drive progress, one handprint at a time,” said Kirk Merrett, Hyundai Canada’s director of human resources and administration and the executive who administers Hyundai Hope on Wheels, in the release.
Hyundai Hope on Wheels is committed to donate $4 million in 2025 to pediatric oncology centres in Canada.
