This van has a bigger TV than what’s in your living room

The Mercedes-Benz Vision V is not real but it is a preview of what a luxurious van can be.

The automaker introduced the concept vehicle to showcase its modular, flexible and scalable Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA).

Real-life vehicles on this architecture will launch in 2026.

The Vision V is a demonstration that offers a glimpse of what the top-end version of a Mercedes-Benz electric van can be, the automaker said.

“The Vision V is the beginning of a new era for Mercedes-Benz Vans. It demonstrates, in the truest sense of the word, how we bring luxury to a spacious cabin and define a new segment. With that, we set standards in design, comfort and an immersive user experience – while meeting the highest demands of our customers,” said Thomas Klein, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, in a news release.

The goods inside

The Vision V has a switchable glass wall that separates the driver’s area from what Mercedes calls a private lounge. The glass can be changed from transparent to opaque, completely or in sections.

The private lounge features a spacious seating area that mixes elegance and technology.

On the inside, you get crystal white Nappa leather and shimmering white silk contrast with large decorative elements made of open-pore burr wood. There are also display cabinets that are set into the dark wood trim along the side walls and are framed by polished aluminum trim strips.

The centre console is also a display cabinet. It includes touchpad to control the infotainment system and a fold-out table. The table, when extended, appears as a chessboard.

Technology

So let’s get on to the real goods, the technology.

The highlight is a retractable 4K, 65-inch cinema screen, which has split-screen functionality.

The screen is tucked under the floor and when the passengers are inside and the doors are closed, the screen glides up. Passengers can watch the screen emerge through transparent slats in the floor.

The van also includes a 42-speaker surround-sound system with Dolby Atmos so that you can really hear your music or whatever content you’ve got going on the screen, such as video games.

There are also seven projectors in the headliner and floor, which can turn the side windows into additional screens and create a 360-degree viewing experience.

The window panes, much like the glass separating the cockpit from the lounge, can be transparent or offer various levels of opacity. Opacity is adjusted thanks to tiny liquid crystals that align themselves through electrical voltage.

Ambient lighting can also adapt its colours to the beat of the music.

The cockpit also includes what Mercedes-Benz calls a Superscreen, combining three screens to extend from the pillar to pillar.
