Subaru has unveiled an-all new Solterra electric SUV and it’s expected to go on sale in Canada sometime later this year.
The 2026 Subaru Solterra was unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.
The automaker points out the new Solterra sees improvements in efficiency, styling, cabin comfort and driving performance.
Propulsion system
The newest Solterra is motivated by two motors, one on each axle, producing a total of 338 hp, which is 57 per cent more than the outgoing model. This is enough power to propel the SUV from zero to 100 km/h in less than five seconds.
Energy is supplied by a 77-kWh lithium-ion battery.
Estimated driving range is approximately 450 kilometres on a full charge, which is 25 per cent more than the outgoing Solterra’s range.
Fast charge
The Solterra comes standard with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge port, allowing it to charge at Tesla Superchargers.
A battery preconditioning system helps the Solterra maintain a fast charge even in cold weather.
Subaru said the battery can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in about 35 minutes with DC fast charging at speeds of approximately 150 kW.
The new Solterra also gets an improved 11-kW onboard charger for more convenient at-home charging.

Off-road capability
Like most Subarus, the Solterra gets symmetrical all-wheel drive.
The system on this EV includes off-road capability with an X-Mode dual mode system with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes with Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control for low-grip or off-road confidence.
The vehicle has 210 millimetres of ground clearance.
Subaru said the suspension and electric power steering have been refined for better handling and responsiveness.
The all-wheel drive control predicts the load applied to the front and rear tires and optimizes power distribution and suspension to reduce roll and sway. Subaru said this provides a better sense of control and a smoother ride.
Technology
The Solterra gets a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. There are also wireless 15W smartphone chargers for the driver and front passenger and USB-C ports for fast charging in the rear.
EyeSight driver-assist technologies including pre-collision braking, front cross traffic alert, blind-spot monitors, lane departure alert, a panoramic view monitor, emergency stop assist, traffic jam assist, lane change assist, advanced adaptive cruise control and more.
The SUV rides on new 18- or 20-inch wheels.
The new Solterra’s front end was redesigned, now featuring a family resemblance with the newly launched Subaru Trailseeker. That includes a new EV lighting signature with a six-star illuminated logo, redesigned headlamps and a new front bumper design.
The rear gets a new badge, rear gate garnish and spoiler.
