The Nissan Micra is not dead.
The diminutive hatchback was last offered in Canada for the 2019 model year before it was discontinued here and in the United States.
It continued to be offered in other parts of the world – sometimes under a different name.
On March 26, the automaker announced numerous new or updated vehicle models, including the next generation of the Micra, which is becoming a small electric vehicle.
The 2026 Micra EV is expected to go on sale sometime this year; unfortunately, there are no plans to bring it to Canada.
Instead, the electric city car is destined for a return in Europe.
The new Micra is produced in collaboration with Renault, was designed in London, England, and will only be available in Europe.
Other vehicles skipping Canada
The Micra is not the only familiar vehicle name not planned for Canada.
Nissan will also introduce the Qashqai with the latest generation of the company’s e-Power hybrid powertrain in Europe, but there are no plans to bring the crossover back to Canada.
Europeans are also getting the all-new, all-electric Juke, which is expected to launch sometime in 2026, but again, no mention of this vehicle coming here.
