Karma Automotive wants owners of its electric cars to have it all. That includes the high torque figures of electric vehicles minus range anxiety.

The company has unveiled its first production coupe, the Amaris, which will use the company’s next-generation extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain.

“Karma Automotive remains at the forefront of EREV powertrains, and believes now more than ever that the freedom of refueling either with gasoline or electricity is ideally suited to the marketplace,” said company president Marques McCammon in a news release. “With our gorgeous Amaris two-door coupe and soon-to-be-revealed Gyesera four-door, we’re building a range of vehicles that will deliver exceptional EV torque and performance paired with worry-free cruising range, a combination that only EREV can deliver.”

The automaker said the Amaris uses the latest evolution of the company’s Comet Line design language. It utilizes an all-aluminum spaceframe architecture that began with the Karma Revero.

The car rides on 22-inch Constellation forged aluminum wheels.

The Amaris will feature the company’s EREV powertrain but with a larger turbocharged four-cylinder internal combustion engine to act as a generator.

A power figure wasn’t provided, but the company said accelerating from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) is estimated in less than 3.5 seconds.

The top speed is estimated at 165 mph (265 km/h).

Production is anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. Pricing wasn’t announced.

Gyesera and Kaveya

The company’s four-door Gyesera, which is the successor to the Revero, is expected to launch later this year.

It was initially unveiled as an EV, but the company said it will now be an EREV and will feature revised styling.

Karma Automotive said the switch to extended-range powertrains is in response to changes in the near-term market demand for EVs.

The launch of the fully electric Kaveya super-coupe is also being postponed until 2027 due to these market conditions.
