It has finally happened, the sports car nicknamed “Godzilla” is gone.
Nissan Canada has removed the GT-R off its website, leaving the Nissan Z as its only current sports car on offer.
When you attempt to find it on the website, you’re met with this message: “The Nissan GT-R was an automotive masterpiece. With relentless performance and razor-sharp aerodynamics, it sliced through the air and stuck to the road. Inside, its driver-focused cockpit put every control within reach, creating an unrivaled experience behind the wheel. Discover how the Nissan Z follows in its footsteps and embraces Nissan’s racing DNA.”
So long, Godzilla.
Back in mid-2024, the automaker announced North American production of the GT-R was coming to an end at the end of the 2024 model year; however, the car remained available on Nissan’s Canadian website until late February.
The R35 generation of the GT-R debuted more than 17 years ago and had been available in Canada since 2008. The car remained mostly unchanged visually through those years but received revisions to increase its performance prowess. When it launched in 2008, the GT-R had 485 hp, while the 2024 version had 565 hp.
“Since its launch, the R35 GT-R has delivered supercar-rivaling performance and excitement for a supercar-beating price tag, engaging a new generation of automotive enthusiasts in Canada and showing many, more expensive sports cars its taillights on the racetrack,” Nissan Canada said in a June 14 news release.
“While the R35 GT-R leaves an unforgettable legacy, Nissan is now hyperfocused on the future and the next era of exciting innovation in performance,” the same news release added.
