Subaru’s most popular vehicle in Canada is gaining an additional powertrain.
Subaru announced it is launching the Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid for the 2026 model year.
It is powered by Subaru’s next-generation hybrid powertrain that features a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle boxer engine paired with an electric motor, symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive and a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission.
Total system output is 194 hp. Subaru says the hybrid model improves on efficiency while still providing what the automaker calls legendary off-road capability.

This newest model is expected to be available at Canadian dealerships in late 2025.
The Crosstrek also includes X-Mode with hill descent control and has 220 millimetres of ground clearance.
Various advanced safety features are standard, including the latest version of Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist technology.
There’s also an 11.6-inch multimedia screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, advanced adaptive cruise control with emergency stop assist in case the driver becomes unresponsive to warnings. The system can stop the vehicle, activate the hazard lights, unlock the doors and call emergency services.
Pricing will be announced closer to the Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid’s on-sale date.
