Porsche is showing off the capabilities of its Taycan electric car with a new Guinness World Records title.
Driver Jens Richter piloted a Taycan GTS model for the record of longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an electric vehicle.
In 46 minutes, he managed to complete a total of 132 laps and covered 17.503 kilometers in controlled oversteer.
The record was achieved on Jan. 14 at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, which is approximately 150 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The team created a drift circle with a diameter of 59 metres for the attempt and the car rode on commercially available Michelin tires with one-millimetre spikes mounted on both axles.
The record was achieved on Richter’s second attempt, as the first one failed as the ice deteriorated due to the drifting.
For the second attempt, the team used shorter spikes and did the run as darkness fell, which lowered the ice temperature.
“With our new Guinness World Records title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving qualities,” Richter said in a news release. “And this time even with all-wheel drive. The fact that the Taycan GTS can be controlled so well even under extreme conditions speaks volumes for its excellent chassis and balanced performance.”

Other Taycan records
The Porsche Taycan has or held other Guinness World Records.
In 2023, the Taycan Cross Turismo was used for the greatest altitude change by an electric car at the Xinjiang-Tibet route, achieving an altitude change of 5,573 metres.
In 2021, the Taycan was driven at a speed of 165.1 km/h inside an exhibition hall in New Orleans, Louisiana for the fastest speed driven by a vehicle in an enclosed building.
In 2020, the Taycan was used for the longest continuous drift, covering 42.171 kilometres in 55 minutes. Unlike the new record, this one wasn’t on ice.
