What’s the price difference between regular Toyota Prius and plug-in hybrid version?

The 2025 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid carries a starting price premium of $1,885 in Canada over the self-charging hybrid Prius.

Toyota Canada has announced the 2025 pricing for the Prius, its award-winning self-charging hybrid car, and the Prius Plug-in Hybrid model.

The plug-in hybrid carries a price premium of $1,885 over the regular Prius.

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid model has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $40,050 (approximately $43,629 with fees and levies), while the standard Prius has a starting MSRP of $38,165 (approximately $41,744 with fees and levies).

We’ll take a look at both models below, starting with the standard Prius model.

2025 Toyota Prius

The Prius is powered by Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid powertrain, which features a 2-litre Atkinson Cycle four-cylinder engine, a motor-generator system and a continuously variable transmission. The system produces 196 hp and has a city/highway combined fuel efficiency rating of 4.8L/100 km.

All models are equipped with electronic on-demand all-wheel drive with the electric motor powering the rear wheels.

It can also accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds.

All Prius cars get Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes a suite of safety features as well as the Toyota Star Safety System, eight airbags, blind spot monitor with safe exit assist and more.

There are two grades to choose from.

The XLE includes Toyota Multimedia with Service Connect, Safety Connect, and Remote Connect plus an eight-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, Softex upholstery, and a smart key with push button start.

The Limited model gains an eight-speaker JBL audio system, Toyota Multimedia with Service Connect, Safety Connect, Remote Connect, and Drive Connect plus a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, a glass roof, a power back door, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a wireless charging dock, a Panoramic View Monitor system, Advanced Park, and a digital key.

Starting Prius prices are as follows:

  • XLE – $41,744 (MSRP of $38,165)
  • Limited – $47,859 (MSRP of $44,280)

2025 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid (previously called Prius Prime) is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a 2-litre gas engine and an electric motor-generator system producing a total of 220 hp.

The SE base model has an estimated fuel efficiency of 1.8Le/100 km.

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid also has an electric-only driving range of up to 72 kilometres on a full charge.

If plug-in charging is not available, the car operates like a regular hybrid model.

All trims feature Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, the Toyota Star Safety System, eight airbags, blind spot monitor with safe exit assist, front cross traffic alert, lane change assist and more.

There are three grades to choose from.

The SE includes Toyota Multimedia with Service Connect, Safety Connect, Remote Connect, and an eight-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto compatibility, 17-inch alloys, fabric upholstery, heated front seats, heated, Softex-wrapped steering wheel, the smart key with push button start, and rain-sensing wipers.

The XSE includes Toyota Multimedia with Service Connect, Safety Connect, Remote Connect, Drive Connect and a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, 19-inch alloy wheels, Softex upholstery, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an enhanced four-door smart key system, a wireless charging pad, glass roof, a driver monitor camera, and traffic jam assist.

The XSE Premium adds an eight-speaker JBL audio system, driver’s seat memory system, a power hatch, digital key, Panoramic View Monitor, a rear camera washer, and Advanced Park.

Starting Prius Plug-in Hybrid prices are as follows:

  • SE – $43,629 (MSRP of $40,050)
  • XSE – $48,364 (MSRP of $44,785)
  • XSE Premium – $52,114 (MSRP of $48,535)
