Toyota Canada is hoping to feed a million people in the country.
The company is kicking off its Million Meals initiative with a $300,000 donation to Food Banks Canada.
“We believe no one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from,” said Leslie Miller, vice president, corporate services and chief financial officer, Toyota Canada, in a Jan. 9 news release. “The Toyota Million Meals goal is about uniting our resources, efforts and compassion to help build stronger, more food-secure communities across Canada. We’re proud to partner with national organizations like Food Banks Canada who are on the front lines every day.”
Food Banks Canada, which supports more than 5,500 food banks and community organizations across the country, said there will be more than two million Canadians visiting food banks this month alone, which is a record high.
“Right now, it is a difficult time for many of our family and friends across the country with food bank usage at its highest in Canadian history, with the need for food banks nearly doubling in only five years,” said Food Banks Canada CEO Kirstin Beardsley in the release. “Thanks to the generosity of partners like Toyota Canada, this will ensure that food banks can continue to meet the increasing demand and provide essential resources to our neighbours in need.”
In 2020, Toyota Canada and its dealers contributed more than $1 million to local food banks across the country and have providing such support ever since. In September, Toyota Canada donated $100,000 to Breakfast Club of Canada, which runs school breakfast programs.
