The 2025 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year award winners have been named.

They are as follows:

• North American Car of the Year: Honda Civic Hybrid
• North American Truck of the Year: Ford Ranger
• North American Utility Vehicle of the Year: Volkswagen ID. Buzz

The awards were announced at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show on Friday, Jan. 10.

Honda Canada points out this is the fourth time the Civic has picked up an NACOTY award, more than any other car in the awards’ history. It’s also the second time the current, 11th-generation Civic got the honour as it previously won the award in 2022. The other two were in 2006 and 2016.

“The Honda Civic is Canada’s best-selling compact car for a reason, it embodies all of Honda’s legendary attributes balancing all the rational needs customers require while delivering a thrilling drive, generation after generation, it truly is an icon,” said Emile Korkor, assistant vice president, Honda Canada, in a news release. “We are extremely proud to have the Civic recognized with this award by the automotive press across the continent, we expect Civic Hybrid variants to represent over 60 per cent of Civic sales in Canada this year, it is a key part of Honda’s electrification strategy focused on customer demands today and tomorrow.”

The NACTOY awards, which were founded in 1994, are the longest-running new-vehicle awards not associated with a single publication, the organization that runs the awards says. Vehicles are judged by 50 professional automotive journalists from a wide variety of print, online, radio and television media outlets in the United States and Canada.

The 2025 Canadian Car of the Year Awards will be announced on Feb. 13 at the 2025 Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto.
