BMW had a down sales year in Canada in 2024; however, the automaker’s high-performance M division had a record year.

BMW Group Canada reported sales for the year, saying it sold a total of 34,731 vehicles in 2024, which is a two per cent deficit compared to 2023.

This included 30,623 vehicles for the BMW brand, which is a decrease of 1.3 per cent, and 4,108 vehicles for the Mini brand, a decrease of seven per cent.

The company also sold fewer motorcycles as the BMW Motorrad brand saw the sales of 2,678 motorcycles, a decrease of four per cent.

BMW M sales, on the other hand, shined in Canada. Annual sales surpassed 7,000 vehicles for the first time in the company’s history, increasing by nine per cent over 2023. The division account for 23 per cent of BMW’s sales for the year.

“It was a big year for some of our most sought-after products,” said Andrew Scott, president and CEO of BMW Group Canada, in a news release. “The all-new BMW X3 is sure to add another chapter to the model’s 20-year success story. On the performance side, the legendary BMW M5 arrived on our shores in its seventh generation to the delight of BMW M fans. The new generation of Mini models were launched in 2024, including an all-electric Mini Countryman, and BMW Motorrad – who established the segment of adventure touring enduros more than four decades ago with the R 80 G/S – sealed its leadership in this segment by launching the all-new R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS Adventure.”

Scott added that the months ahead will be important for BMW as the company embarks on what it calls Neue Klasse – one of its biggest transformations in its 100-year history.

“This change is more than a new design concept; it is an entirely new era for the company,” he said in the release. “It impacts all areas of our business from design and development to production and distribution. The aim is to make individual mobility more intelligent, more human and more responsible with a focus on electromobility, on digitalization and on circularity. We are looking very forward to bringing the Neue Klasse to Canadians in partnership with our strong network of retail partners.”

BMW Group Canada is headquartered in Richmond Hill, Ont. and has a network of 51 automotive dealerships, 26 motorcycle dealerships and 31 Mini dealerships.
