Mitsubishi had its best year for Canadian sales in 2024 and the company’s most expensive vehicle was also its best seller.

The company sold 38,921 vehicles in Canada in 2024, up nine per cent over its previous best year, which was 2023, when the company sold 35,708 vehicles.

The Outlander PHEV accounted for about 36 per cent of the company’s vehicle sales with 14,290 units sold. That’s an increase of 44.2 per cent over 2023 sales when 9,911 of these models were sold. This is also the first time in the company’s history that a single model sold more than 10,000 units in a calendar year.

Fun fact: Canada happens to be the No. 1 market in the world for Outlander PHEV sales.

The next best-selling model in the automaker’s Canadian lineup was the gasoline-only Outlander model, which saw 9,005 vehicles sold. That’s actually down 6.6 per cent from the year before as Mitsubishi sold 9,640 Outlander vehicles.

Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, which is headquartered in Mississauga, Ont., opened its 97th dealership in Canada in 2024 and has added more staff. In May, the company also released the Mitsubishi Momentum 2030 strategy, which aims to launch a new or refreshed vehicle every year for the next six years, starting with the updated internal combustion engine version of the Outlander, which is launching in 2025.

The company did also announce the discontinuation of the least expensive new vehicle in Canada, which was its lowest selling model of 2024. The company sold 2,932 Mirage cars during the year.
