The Mazda MX-5, often still called the Miata, is seeing a price bump of $200 in 2025. This is across the all the trims.
The soft-top MX-5 has a starting Canadian manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $35,100 and the hard-top RF model has a starting MSRP of $42,100. The MSRP doesn’t include fees, levies or taxes.
The current MX-5, which is in its fourth generation, debuted in 2016. While that’s a long time, Mazda says engineers have continuously been updating the car, including changes and updates to the steering, engine, transmission and available limited-slip differential, as well as updates to the exterior, interior, technology and more.
“Mazda is confident that the 2025 MX-5 is the best one yet,” Mazda Canada said in a news release.
All MX-5s are powered by a Skyactiv-G 2-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 181 hp at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm.
A six-speed manual transmission is standard while a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters is available on GS-P and GT models.
The MX-5 also features Kinematic Posture Control, Mazda’s software-based suspension technology, which is said to improve precision and confidence in high-g cornering. What’s more, the system doesn’t add any weight to the car.
Mazda says the system will apply slight braking to the inner rear wheel during high-g cornering, which pulls down on that corner, suppresses body roll and makes the steering more precise and linear, whether through tight or rough corners. The system can apply slightly stronger braking when accelerating through a corner.

The cars come with a host of safety features, including on the base model, which features i-Activesense, a suite that includes advanced blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, smart city brake support, high beam control, Mazda radar cruise control and lane departure warning, as well as other features.
Starting MSRP is as follows:
- MX-5 GS 6MT – $35,100 soft top
- MX-5 GS-P 6MT or 6AT – $39,100 soft top, $42,100 RF hard top

- MX-5 GT 6MT or 6AT – $42,200 soft top, $45,200 RF hard top
