No, that’s not a Hot Wheels, it’s a Jaguar

The automaker has unveiled the Type 00, a concept vehicle it calls an “unmistakable, unexpected and dramatic physical manifestation of Jaguar.”

No, the car in these pictures is not a production vehicle.

But the Jaguar Type 00 concept vehicle, with its dramatic contours, long bonnet, narrow windows and Hot Wheels-esque oversized wheels, is the automaker’s design vision for the future.

Jaguar says the Type 00 is an introduction of an “unmistakable, unexpected and dramatic manifestation of Jaguar, as the brand continues its transformation.”

The electric vehicle was unveiled Dec. 2 at Miami Art Week and is a preview of what’s to come from Jaguar. The Type 00 was presented in two colours, Miami Pink and London Blue.

The car’s name references Jaguar’s use of the word “type” in vehicle names, such as the highly regarded E-type, while the first zero references zero tailpipe emissions and the second zero represents the car’s status as car zero in its new lineage of vehicles.

Jaguar is building toward the original ethos established by its founder Sir William Lyons, which is “Copy Nothing.”

“The magic of Jaguar is close to my heart – an original British luxury brand unmatched in its heritage, artistry and emotional magnetism,” said Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell in a news release. “That’s the Jaguar we are recapturing and we will create the same sense of awe that surrounded iconic models like the E-type. Our journey is already underway, guided by our original ethos to Copy Nothing – and the results will be spectacular.”

You’ll notice the Type 00 rides on 23-inch alloy wheels, plus it features a fastback profile, lacks a rear window, and has what Jaguar calls a boat-tail to create a dramatic silhouette.

“Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy. It has an unmistakable presence,” said Jaguar Land Rover chief creative officer Gerry McGovern in the release. “This is the result of brave, unconstrained creative thinking, and unwavering determination. It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavour.”

While the Type 00 is a showpiece, Jaguar is planning the launch of the first vehicle in its latest chapter.

An upcoming four-door GT is expected to be revealed in late 2025.

The new Jaguar

This new model will be built in the U.K. and Jaguar is targeting an EPA driving range of 692 kilometres, plus up to 321-kilometres of range added in as little as 15 minutes of charging with rapid charging.

Additionally, Jaguar is planning a more exclusive existence. The brand will “come to life,” as Jaguar says, in select markets, with exclusive brand stores around the world, starting in Paris, where the first new brand store will open in the city’s luxury fashion district.
