The Toyota Highlander is increasing in price in 2025 in Canada.
That includes the loss of the previous base model and an across-the-board price increase for each trim of the vehicle.
For the 2025 model year, the Highlander has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $50,210, which after fees and levies comes out to about $53,780.
That’s for the XLE trim, which is now the cheapest model available.
The 2024 Highlander XLE had an MSRP of $49,450, so that’s an increase of $760 in 2025. Plus, the 2024 gas-only model could be had in the LE grade, which had an MSRP of $46,550, which represents a price difference of $3,660 for the lowest-priced versions.
The Highlander is available with two powertrains, one being gas only and the other a hybrid electric, with the gas model available in four grades and the hybrid in five. The SUV can seat seven or eight, depending on the trim selected (generally, the more expensive models have fewer seats).
The gas-only Highlander is powered by a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with start-stop technology and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain produces 265 hp and 309 lb.-ft. of torque and has a towing capacity of 2,268 kilograms (5,000 pounds).
The Highlander Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, two electric motor-generators and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. The system produces 243 hp and has a towing capacity of 1,588 kilograms (3,500 pounds). The hybrid also has a city/highway combined fuel efficiency rating of 6.7 L/100 km.
Each model features Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which is a suite of safety features, as well as the Toyota Star Safety System, eight airbags, blind spot monitor system with rear cross traffic alert and more.
“The Highlander combines the best of two worlds – the versatility of an SUV with the sophistication and refinement of a premium passenger car,” said Cyril Dimitris, vice president, Toyota Canada Inc., in a news release. “For 2025, we’re offering the Highlander in five hybrid and four gas models – each representing a popular combination of features and amenities ready to help Canadians enjoy the benefits of a life well earned.”
