New top grade of Lexus RX carries $30,000 price premium over base model

There are now 16 grades of the SUV available in Canada for the 2025 model year, including a pair of new trims.

The Lexus RX is now available in 16 grades for the 2025 model year, two of which are new for this year and one of which is the SUV’s most expensive model.

This newest top-of-the-line model also carries a price premium of just more than $30,000 over the base model.

The base model, the RX 350 Premium, has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $60,130 in Canada, which, after fees and levies are included, costs approximately $63,470.

The new most expensive model, the RX 500h Black Sport Special Edition, has a starting MSRP of $90,574, which comes to $93,914 with fees and levies.

The other new model for 2025 is the RX 350h F Sport Design, which has a starting MSRP of $64,805 ($68,145 with fees and levies).

The new RX 350h F Sport Design model builds on the RX 350h Premium model and adds some sporty flair, including such things as sporty styling, 21-inch F Sport performance wheels, F Sport grille and bumpers, an F Sport exterior package and a distinctive badge.

The RX 500h Black Sport Special Edition is a limited-production model that features such things as a black aero kit, exclusive five-spoke wheels with a black finish, orange brake calipers, unique interior with contrast stitching, black F Sport floor mats and cargo mat, illuminated door sills and more.

“For the RX, Lexus designers and engineers created an SUV that encourages Canadians to cherish each moment behind the wheel,” said Martin Gilbert, director of Lexus Canada, in a news release. “With so many unique grades available, including many models built right here in Canada, the 2025 RX series continues to demonstrate why this is one of the most popular luxury SUVs in the country.”

The RX is the automaker’s premium crossover SUV. Besides the various trims, the vehicle is also available with a variety powertrains.

The RX 350 models are powered by a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with electronically controlled full-time all-wheel drive. The powertrain has 275 hp and 317 lb.-ft. of torque and fuel efficiency is rated at 9.9L/100 km in city-highway combined.

The RX 350h models feature a self-charging hybrid powertrain featuring a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. The powertrain has 246 hp and fuel efficiency is rated at 6.5L/100 km in city-highway combined.

The RX 500h models feature a self-charging hybrid powertrain with a one-motor hybrid system. A 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine is paired with a high-output electric motor, inverter and reduction gearbox, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and the Lexus DIRECT 4 all-wheel-drive system. The powertrain has 367 hp and 406 lb.-ft. of torque and fuel efficiency is rated at 8.6L/100 in city-highway combined.

Lastly, the RX 450h+ model, which is available in a single grade, features a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and an electronically controlled CVT and electronically controlled full-time all-wheel drive. It has a fuel efficiency rating of 2.8L equivalent/100 km in city-highway combined. The model also has an estimated electric-only range of 60 kilometres.
