Porsche has launched the latest-generation GT3 version of its 911 sports car, calling it a double premiere as it features two cars.

The 2025 model of the Porsche 911 GT3 is available as a track-focused beast with a large rear wing as well as an understated GT3 Touring variant, which drops the wing.

Both cars make use of the same high-revving (up to 9,000 rpm) naturally aspirated 4-litre six-cylinder boxer engine producing 510 PS and 450 Nm, which for us Canadians translates to 502 hp and 332 lb.-ft. of torque.

Additionally, the GT3 is available with an optional Weissach package, a first for a GT3, which reduces the car’s weight.

The latest GT3 is lighter than its predecessor, Porsche says, and in its lightest form weighs 1,420 kilograms.

Performance figures

Porsche provided some performance figures for the car with either the seven-speed PDK automatic transmission or six-speed manual.

Acceleration:

  • Zero to 100 km/h – 3.4 seconds with PDK
  • Zero to 100 km/h – 3.9 seconds with manual

Top speed:

  • 311 km/h with PDK
  • 313 km/h with manual

Both the manual and PDK have a final drive ratio that is eight per cent shorter than the predecessor GT3.

Aerodynamics

The new GT3 gets new, sharper styling front and back as well as improved aerodynamics.

The suspension engineering took on some modifications from the GT3 RS to reduce pitching during heavy braking, which ensures a downforce balance between the front and rear is maintained, the automaker said.

“On the track, the new 911 GT3 enables even better control because it holds even steadier and handles better on bumps and when driving over kerbs thanks to the optimized damper tuning,” said brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister in a news release. “The anti-dive system noticeably reduces the pitching movement when braking. As a result, the balance of the car remains significantly more consistent under all conditions.”

Touring package

The Touring package has been part of the GT3 program since 2017, but this is the first time it is available at launch of a new GT3, Porsche says.

This latest GT3 Touring model loses the fixed wing to preserve the timeless 911 shape, while an extendable rear spoiler with a tear-off edge, the Gurney flap and an adapted fin design on the underbody provide aerodynamic balance, Porsche says.

The interior also gets a high-quality leather interior, and unlike the standard GT3, the Touring model can be optioned with rear seats.

Weight savings

Porsche went to great lengths to keep the car’s weight down, which contributes to its handling capability.

New lightweight aluminum wheels reduce unsprung mass by more than 1.5 kilograms, while the Weissach and Leichtbau packages have optional magnesium wheels available, which save nine kilograms. A new 40 Ah lithium-ion lightweight battery removes about four more kilograms.

Even the bucket seats in the GT3 are made of a lightweight carbon-fibre reinforced plastic shell, while cars with the Touring package have the option of 18-way adaptive sport seats.

Customers will be able to order the new GT3 by the end of the year. The cars also come with an exclusive watch, the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Touring chronograph.
