Lexus is adding a new hybrid model and a more off-road capable grade to its flagship LX sport utility vehicle lineup.

The Lexus LX 700h, as the hybrid is called, is joining the existing LX 600 in the automaker’s lineup for the 2025 model year, plus there’s now the additional Overtrail + grade available.

LX 700h

Let’s explore the goods of the new LX 700h.

The large SUV is available in two- and three-row configurations.

The LX SUVs sit on the company’s GA-F platform, which underpins a number of Toyota trucks and SUVs. The platform was strengthened with a new three-cross frame to accommodate the LX 700h’s heavier weight and extended length.

The hybrid is motivated by a hybrid powertrain featuring an electric motor and twin-turbo 3.4-litre V6 engine with a total output of 457 hp and 583 lb.-ft. of torque. The powertrain is mated to a 10-speed direct shift automatic transmission.

The battery, of nickel-metal hydride composition, sits under the luggage compartment for two-row models, and under the third-row seat for three-row configurations.

In a first for Lexus, the powertrain features an alternator and a starter so that in the event the hybrid system is not functioning, the starter would start the engine while the alternator would power the 12V auxiliary battery, allowing the vehicle to be driven on the internal combustion engine only.

In the LX 600, which doesn’t have the electric-drive components, the 3.4-litre twin-turbo engine produces 409 hp and 479 lb.-ft. of torque.

Both models can tow up to 8,000 pounds.

The LX 600 and LX 700h are available in these trims: Premium, F Sport, Luxury and Executive VIP, while the new-for-2025 Overtrail + grade is only available on the LX 700h variant.

Overtrail +

Lexus points out the LX is the only vehicle in its lineup that has both an Overtrail + and an F Sport trim available.

The automaker introduced the Overtrail Project in 2023, an initiative that is meant to inspire customers of these vehicles to explore nature.

In the case of the LX, the Overtrail + model adds features and equipment to help owners get out and explore the outdoors.

The model adds front and rear locking differentials (which forces the wheels on each axle to turn at the same rate), a 2,400W AC inverter, off-road all-weather floor liners, a front skid plate, and an appearance package that features a matte grey grille, black door handles, dark grey roof rails, dark chrome-finished window and bumper trim and black overfenders. The SUV also rides on 33-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels.

The Overtrail + model also includes the Earth exterior colour. On the inside, the SUV is available with black or stone brown semi-aniline leather-trim on the seats and door panels with stone brown stitching and black open pore wood accents on the centre console and door panels.

The model can be configured in two- and three-row seating configurations.

In true Lexus fashion, the LX also features a host of luxury and safety tech, including the Lexus Safety System + 3.0 and more.

The automaker says the 2025 LX models will go on sale in early 2025, and vehicle pricing will be announced at a future date. More information is available at lexus.ca/lx.
