The cheapest electric vehicle available in Canada in 2024 will not live to see 2025.
Mazda Canada announced it is dropping the MX-30 EV following the 2024 model year.
Strictly speaking, the MX-30 EV doesn’t have the lowest manufacturer’s suggested retail price of any EV in Canada this year – that title belongs to the Fiat 500e. However, the automaker’s discount of $4,000 (available as of this article’s publishing date) gives the Mazda the lowest starting price of any EV in 2024. Based on Ontario pricing (MSRP plus fees and levies), the MX-30 EV could be had at a starting price of $41,476, even before any government EV rebates are factored in (tax is extra).
“With our focus on providing more fuel efficient and electrified options that our customers want, Mazda Canada has decided to end sales of the MX-30 EV compact crossover at the end of the current 2024 model year,” the company said in a media release.
“In the next phase of our electrification plan, we will be introducing more electrified and full electric vehicles that will meet the needs of our customers, including a dedicated, scalable EV platform, as we move towards electrifying our entire lineup by 2030.”
The MX-30 is Mazda’s only EV available in Canada, but the automaker sells a number of hybrid models here.
“The Mazda MX-30 EV was our first mass-produced battery electric passenger vehicle and was the first step on our electrification journey, which has since produced other electrified vehicle options that our consumers are asking for, such as the CX-70 and CX-90 mild hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, and the CX-50 Hybrid, which will go on sale this fall,” the news release added.

Mazda CX-30 updates for 2025
In other compact crossover news from Mazda Canada, the company announced pricing and model updates for the CX-30 for the upcoming year.
This vehicle burns fossil fuels but one could be forgiven if this model is mixed up with the MX-30 as they’re similarly sized and named.
The 2025 CX-30 is gaining the options of Alexa Built-in, Private eCall, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, and Mazda Online Navigation, as well as the availability of the Aero Gray Metallic colour, first available on the MX-5 sports car.
The CX-30 can be had with the Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 191 hp and 186 lb.-ft. of torque, while the GT Turbo and Suna Edition models are powered by a Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. With 93 octane premium fuel, this engine produces 250 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque, while on regular 87 octane fuel, it produces 227 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.
The starting MSRP is $28,950, which doesn’t includes fees and levies, while the vehicle tops out with the Suna Edition, which has a starting MSRP of $41,000.
You can configure your CX-30 on the Mazda Canada website.
